Isn’t a Positive Pregnancy Test Enough?
A late period and positive pregnancy test usually indicate pregnancy, but did you know experts estimate that as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage? Most miscarriages occur in the first trimester.
Sometimes, women have what’s called a “chemical pregnancy.” These miscarriages occur early in a pregnancy, perhaps even before a woman realizes she’s pregnant.
Her period may be late, so she takes a pregnancy test, but because it takes her body time to return to pre-pregnancy hormone levels after a miscarriage, the result is a false positive. She is no longer pregnant.
How do you determine if you are actually pregnant? With a limited obstetrical ultrasound. An ultrasound not only detects if your pregnancy is developing, but it also determines its location and how far along you are.
Be Aware of Early Pregnancy Symptoms
Every pregnancy, like every woman, is different. Some women feel every pregnancy symptom immediately, while others don’t experience anything for weeks or months. As pregnancy hormones fluctuate, traveling may become a little more challenging.
Here are some of the early pregnancy symptoms to be aware of:
- Nausea with or without vomiting.
- Frequent urination.
- Fatigue.
- Moodiness.
- Bloating.
- Constipation.
- Food aversions.
When traveling, especially flying, be prepared with healthy snacks. Consider dried fruit, unsalted nuts, or peanut butter crackers. Be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and avoid constipation.
